Cartoonery: Depp v Heard

I have kept quiet on this case until now. I have to be honest, I found it deeply disturbing, triggering and at times I was ashamed to listen. I felt I was intruding on a couples most private moments. The court process is harsh in ‘normal’ times but on a public stage…humiliating.

Whether you are team Depp or team Heard, I don’t care. Power, money and fame created this fiasco however the implications of this case have far reaching detrimental effects on victims of domestic abuse. How alleged victims are treated has a profound effect on those living with the horrific reality of domestic abuse.

I have seen this case create divides I have never seen before in people. It has been saddening to watch. It has created heated discussions where people have speculated who’s right and who’s wrong. Who is abusive and who is not.

The relationship between Amber and Johnny has all the hallmarks of abuse which depending on perspective can be seen from both sides.

But, let’s face it, none of this case was good and the damage it has done creating a circus of domestic abuse is utterly disgraceful. There will be victims out there now living with the wrath of this case, they will be bullied into believing they will NEVER be believed, “look at the Depp and Heard case” I can hear it now. Victims will be living with more danger, being further silenced because we chose as a society to make a mockery of a domestic abuse trial by USING ABUSE (oh the irony); meme’s, jibes, vicious narratives. Its all says more about those who partake in spitting venom at either side.

The wheel was created by the Domestic Abuser Intervention Programs as part of “The Duluth Model”, which focuses on training and education that teaches how communities can work together to shift blame to abusers and better support survivors.

It is a sad time where we make a mockery of others misery.

Let’s face it no-one ‘won’ and the only people who have truly lost are those now stuck in a situation where they are no longer believed and will live with the terror and fear of domestic abuse to avoid public humiliation and shame.

I feel rather than educate the masses on domestic abuse, this case has allowed people to make up their minds based on sensationalised media and cartoonery!

That’s all folks!
